Climbing the walls

Climbing exercises all the major muscle groups of the body, while it helps to develop children's coordination and concentration.Shrubs KLATRETRE is a decorative climbing wall consisting of stylized branches that can be combined in any way. Creating Alcoves

As a continuation to my earlier post, " Capitalizing on nooks and crannies " this post will hopefully be helpful to create some nook ( in kiddy world - hidden, secret spaces)to make kids feel they have their own world.
A nice canopy or a play tent from the ceiling or over the bed does the trick. So do allocate a space for their dreamy spot.

While it is usually little girls that clamor for canopy beds to feel like a princess, boys can have designer canopies in the form of tree houses, castles, mansions. Canopies give a sense of security to children(while keeping off insects if need be)

Doll house Headboard

My post on lifesize dollhouse has attracted a lot of attention to my blog. Well thanks to all for dropping by.
For those who do not want to have a full fledged life size doll house but still have it in the room. Of course you could have a regular doll house or a doll house book shelf.

 This could be used for storage and display or have a doll house headboard.

An Inspired room

A modern room, great for siblings to grow up in

Check out this super modern space saving furniture from   Clei, Italy. This lovely room has its own character  that keeps changing over the years, as the siblings grow. But the basic furniture remains the same.

Choosing a timeless classic theme for toddlers

Last week I met with a client which turned out to be quite interesting. Met with a young couple, parent to a 4 year old boy, who was very clear that he wanted a car bed. The lady wanted a "classy room", as she put it and the gentlman wanted what his son wanted plus a gas station shaped chest of drawers and a garage wardrobe ...the works. The lady was very practical and did not want to spend too much on a 4 year olds room. My advice to them was ..."you can have both"...you don't have to spend too much money to get a car theme and still make it the best room that your son will have ..have a car bed, and have the rest of the furniture in a nice "classy" colour scheme. Accessorize it to reinforce the theme.

This  applies to anyone deciding between themes. Try to focus on a theme that can have a longer transitional time. For example, a child who wants certain cartoon characters at 4, will probably not be interested in that same character at 6. Hence its important to choose themes that are timeless and your toddler will not outgrow till he/she is into his preteen years.

If she loves Cinderella or snowwhite a Princess theme is classic. If your child insists for the Disney Princesses you could reinforce the theme with Wall Stickers of their favorite character. These could be easily peeled off when they out grow it. Other examples of classic girls theme include  Spring garden,  butterflies, fairies,  etc.

If your kid is a Diego, Tarzan, Dora or a Pooh fan you could choose the classic explorer theme. You could put their favorite characters in the frames and change them as they phase out from one to another. Classic boy's bedroom themes often center on transportation. cars, horses, planes, boats, sports, etc.

By choosing one of the classic theme or any modern theme(music, dance, rockstar, Sci fi, etc) which will be loved by them, you ensure that you do not have to change the furniture and basic decor but  cleverly change some accessories and your children will enjoy their room without growing out of it. 

For your Budding Artist!!

As your child is exploring the world around him, help them to express themselves in the form of art. One of the most important ways to foster creativity is to give them the environment to create their own works of art.

Here is a playroom dedicated to arts and craft. Totally encourages a budding artist. There is place for all the art supplies and to display your child's masterpiece.

 If you can spare a wall  you can have a art wall....they know where they can doodle...all over the wall.

Or you could use a corner of  the room. Just make sure the corner is well lit. Tile, linoleum or other hard surfaces work best in the art corner. You could put a washable throw rug or other protective surface over this area, especially if you have carpeted flooring.

Setting up a corner in your child's bedroom, playroom or anywhere else in your home, has two big advantages. One, for them it gives a creative outlet. Second one for you, the mess is confined to one area of the house.

Superhero room

Superheros are fun and an image your child can connect with....Today  I found a super hero inspired room done by Cheri. A very talented mom of two boys.  Most of the DIY super hero rooms I have come across have turned out to be tacky and disappointing. She has done a great job (along with her talented parents) of appealing to boys AND being tasteful, and fun for the boys. The room has turned out to be funzone for her son "superhero Rex".
